Ask Paul B: Take the Moral High Ground

#ad▼

Dear Paul B,

You have been there for my family always with good ideas and advice. My kids always read your letters to me, and that’s ok. I still do what I know to be right, but you do help us. I have a problem at work with rude people. I work weekends at a banquet hall for weddings and parties. Some people will yell at me and swear. They even ask why I don’t understand English, but I speak it better than they do. One man grabbed my bottom last week and I was so upset. I told my manager, but he said to change tables. My niece found out when she saw me crying and she spilled red wine on his gray suit (on purpose.) I was glad to see that my friends had my back. Why do people think they can treat us like dogs? It’s not fair, and I am still mad at my manager for not talking to this rude man.

Betty

++++++++++++++++

Dear Betty,

You are one exceptional woman. I know about the struggles of you and your family. You have my respect and my admiration for your survival instincts and strength. Easy to say “ignore such imbeciles,” because it is not me. As a woman, you must be so furious when men believe that they can grab or touch you whenever they want. You had the right to call police when this “idiot” grabbed your bottom.
I know that you didn’t want to make a scene, and worry about your job, but your niece demonstrated great “payback” for his actions. Please remember an appropriate cliche that my Dad taught me” There always seems to be more horses asses than horses.” Ain’t it the darn truth, Betty? Take care, and thanks for your letter.
