Standing Water on Roof Forces Evacuation of Businesses While Water is Pumped Off of the Roof

Village officials ordered the evacuation of businesses in the north building of Evergreen Plaza in downtown Arlington Heights just before 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

Three businesses with even number addresses in the Evergreen Plaza were evacuated. The Arlington Heights Building Department is inspecting the roof. Water is being pumped off of the roof to remove excess weight that could stress the roof.

No word if any actual damage was discovered, or if the order was a precaution before damage occurred.

The Evergreen Plaza Shopping Center is bordered by Evergreen Avenue, Dunton Avenue, and Sigwalt Street.
