THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR…
LAKE COUNTY IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS…
MCHENRY COUNTY IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS…

* UNTIL NOON CDT

* AT 858 AM CDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS THE
WARNED AREA. ALREADY THIS MORNING PORTIONS OF MCHENRY AND LAKE
COUNTIES HAVE RECIEVED 2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN…AND AN ADDITIONAL
INCH OR MORE IS POSSIBLE THROUGH NOON. LOCAL ROAD CLOSINGS HAVE
BEEN REPORTED.

* RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL MAY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO
OCCUR. THE NORTHERN HALF OF LAKE AND MCHENRY COUNTIES HAS RECEIVED
THE MOST RAINFALL SO FAR THIS MORNING…AND WOULD BE MOST AT RISK
FOR FLASH FLOODING WITH ADDITIONAL RAINFALL.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY.

The north half of McHenry County has already received about 2 inches of rain.

FLASH FLOOD ADVISORY FOR COOK COUNTY AND DUPAGE COUNTY.

Thunderstorms approaching Arlington Heights and northwest and north suburbs. Heavy rain will continue for at least one hour. Radar shows storms approaching Arlington Heights and extending all the way west to about Davenport, Iowa. The rain and thunderstorms covers most of northern Illinois from Naperville to south-central Wisconsin — about Waukesha.

Winds of 40 mph are expected in the thunderstorms. After frequent lightning from about 9:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. lightning is likely to continue for much of the morning.

Today: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 96. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east southeast.

Tonight: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 76. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest.

Saturday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Heat index values as high as 98. South southwest wind around 5 mph.
