Rolling Meadows Gas Leak: Northeast Corner Algonquin Rd & Old Wilke Rd/Weber, Algonquin Rd Blocked, Evacuations

Rolling Meadows police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:40 p.m. Friday to a gas main leak at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Old Wilke. Rescuers received a report from a contractor that a gas line was ruptured on the northeast corner of Algonquin Road and Old Wilke.

Algonquin Road is blocked to all traffic. The Plaza del Grato shopping center is being evacuated. Traffic is also blocked at Central Road and Barker Avenue, which normally connects Central Road to Algonquin Road. the area is expected to be blocked for several hours.

Wind direction is from the North at 6 mph. Nicor was called to the scene, and arrived about 2:30 p.m. Friday.
