Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with Jeep at Route 173 and Kilbourne Rd Near Wadsworth in Lake County

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday July 11, 2018 to a report of a traffic crash with injuries involving an SUV and a motorcycle at Kilbourne Road and Route 173, Newport Township.

Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene and confirmed a motorcycle was involved in the crash. Newport firefighter/paramedics transported the motorcyclist to St. Catherine’s Medical Center in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep did not initially report any injuries.

Preliminary investigation shows a 1999 Yamaha Motorcycle, driven by a male adult (positive identification pending), was traveling southbound on Kilbourne Road, approaching Route 173. A 2008 Jeep Compass, driven by a 69-year-old female of Gurnee was traveling northbound on Kilbourne Road approaching Kilbourne Road. The driver of the Jeep made a left turn at the intersection in front of the
motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the vehicle and the driver of the motorcycle was ejected from his bike.

The intersection of North Kilbourne Road and Route 173 was closed at the time of the crash for rescue operation and remained closed for an accident investigation. Except for some local traffic, Route 173 (Rosecrans Road) is closed between RUMI Lane and Delany Road. The intersection is expected to be re-opened about 6 or 7 PM. The crash remains is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
