A man called 9-1-1 and said he killed his father. In the video, audio at the beginning reveals police yelling to a man named “Steven” — telling him not to move — and the man cooperates with the police. Police found a body inside a home in the 2600 block of North Stratford Road and called in the Major Case Assistance Team.
Arlington Heights police responded just before midnight Monday to a domestic threat inside a single-family home in the 2600 block of North Stratford. Just after midnight, police set up a perimeter around a house on the east side of Stratford Road, just south of Canterbury Drive.
Police were attempting to contact a male subject inside of the house who called 911 to report that he had killed his father. Police also received calls from two other family members, who were not on scene. Soon after the son’s phone call to police, his mother and sister also called police to report that the son had called them to say he had killed his father. Police were attempting to contact the man to ask for a peaceful surrender. A NIPAS EST* (SWAT Team) was alerted and en route when police convinced the man to surrender. Some team members may have arrived, but no armored vehicles or tactical vehicles arrived. Neighbors near the home were called by reverse 9-11 shortly after midnight, and were told to stay away from windows.
About 1:00 a.m. Tuesday the man, apparently named Steven or Stephen, who police were attempting to contact, came out of the garage or front door. Police immediately placed him in custody and walked him in handcuffs to an Arlington Heights Fire Department rescue ambulance. The man was transported to Northwest Community Hospital under police guard.
Additional paramedics in staging were brought up to the scene by police to confirm that the victim was dead inside the house. The victim appeared to be beaten or bludgeoned.
The Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) was immediately called to the scene. Arlington Heights police and MCAT are apparently investigating a homicide. They call the investigation a death investigation.
Police say they have responded to numerous domestic related calls at the address, and that he had been arrested several times.
On October 31, 2010 Arlington Heights police were called following threatening comments. He fled the home before police arrived. Police used several K-9 units to search for the man north of the residence on Stratford and into Wheeling. He was not found that evening, but he was not wanted for any crime. The man was described as a male/white, 40-years-old, 5’11″ 280 LBS. Some neighbors were aware that the man arrested had experience in ultimate fighting and that he trained as a body builder.
