Residents of Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect experienced a widespread, but short power outage about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday. Some traffic lights reported out in downtown Mount Prospect. The outage was less than five minutes, but enough to cause electric clocks to require resetting.

The heat index forecast for Wednesday is 98. Severe thunderstorms are possible with a cold front about 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. A line of thunderstorms [NEXRAD MOTION RADAR] is currently along a line from just west of Quad Cities to just west of Rockford to just west of Milwaukee. The storms are expected to stay west of the northwest suburban area until tonight. We’ll see if some sneak in early.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center Day 1 Convective Outlook valid 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. has Arlington Heights and most of north-central Illinois in a 2% probability area for tornadoes. The area across Lake County and southwest across northern Illinois is in a 5% probability area for tornadoes.
