Teresa Cygan, 57, of Streamwood and Franciszek Opiela, 57, of Elmwood Park were killed in a two-vehicle accident about 5:15 a.m. Sunday at Kostner Avenue and Diversey Avenue. Opeila’s vehicle struck a building after the crash. The crash happened when a black Honda that was being chased in a pursuit crashed into the victim’s vehicle — a beige Hyundai. Both victims were heading home after working on a cleaning crew.

A woman driver and two male passengers of the other crash vehicle told police they were driving west on Fullerton Avenue and were stopped at a red light at Keeler Avenue when a car with four or five men and two women pulled next to their black Honda and shouted gang slogans and fired at least one shot at the three.

Two occupants of the Honda were transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital.

The three occupants of the black Honda claim they were still being chased when they turned north on Kostner Avenue and ran a red light at Diversey Avenue.
