Identity Released for Crash Victim Killed at Arlington Heights Rd and Meadow Ct, Elk Grove Village

Crash at Arlington Heights Rd and Meadow Ct, Elk Grove Village involving Cook County maintenance truck during activation of MABAS EMS Box and crash investigation with interview with Elk Grove Village Police Chief Chuck Walsh.

The identity of the crash victim killed Saturday, June 30, 2018 in a six-vehicle multiple-injury crash in Elk Grove Village at Arlington Heights Road and Meadow Court was released today by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Giuseppe Gazzano, 44, of Bloomingdale, was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village and pronounced dead at 11:23 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The crash occurred just before 10:45 a.m. and injured 10 other people.

The crash occurred just before 10:45 a.m. at an intersection also known as Arlington Heights Road and Cosman Road.

Gazzano died as a result of multiple trauma injuries suffered when a dump truck collided with an SUV, according to the medical examiner. he was in cardiac arrest at the scene of the crash.

A total of 11 injured crash victims were transported to various hospitals. A MABAS EMS Box to the second level was activated.

A Forest Preserve District of Cook County dump truck/maintenance truck was involved in the crash with five crew members on board. The vehicle and crew were in the area for routine maintenance work. All five crew members were transported to area hospitals.

Forest Preserve of Cook County police, Elk Grove Village police and the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) unit were on the scene for the extended accident investigation. Arlington Heights Road was closed for several hours, and reopened about 6 p.m. Saturday. Officials have not speculated on a cause for the crash, but the Cook County maintenance truck was facing northbound in the southbound lanes, and vehicles were scattered over a distance of at least about 150 feet.
