Illinois Air National Guard from Scott Air Force Base, 126th Air Refueling, 906th Refueling Squadron Serving in Libya

The 126th Air Refueling Wing and the 906th Air Refueling Squadron fly the KC-135-R Stratotanker (a military Boeing 707) is headed to Libya to support the no-fly zone with the specialty of refueling aircraft in mid-air. The units are able to deliver almost 200,000 pounds of jet fuel to another aircraft while both travel more than 500 mph in flight.

The no-fly zone mission, called Operation Odyssey Dawn, is an international coalition formed after a resolution authorized by the United Nations to keep Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi’s forces from attacking rebels and civilians.
