March 20, 2011 marks the first day of Spring at 6:21 p.m. Crocus (plural: crocuses, croci) is a genus of perennial flowering plants, native to a large area from coastal and subalpine areas of central and southern Europe, across Central Asia to western China, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Crocus flowers and leaves are protected from frost by a waxy cuticle, and are even known to bloom through a light snowfall.
