A Georgia college student saved his family’s home and their lives from masked intruders when he updated his Facebook profile with a message asking for help.

Nitesh Bhakta was studying in his room when his grandmother screamed as three robbers entered his home to commit an armed robbery/home invasion. With no phone nearby, Bhakta grabbed his laptop and crawled up to an attic.

As his grandmother and 17-year-old sister were being tied up, and the house was being ransacked, Nitesh Bhakta updated his Facebook status to “HELP, ROBBERS, NO PHONE.”

While some people thought the message was a joke, his best friend, John Salter, called 9-1-1.

Bartow County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched, and were able to apprehend one of three of the offenders, who fled when they heard police arriving.
