Small Fire at Electric Box at the Red Line Cermak-Chinatown Station

Chicago Fire Department responded about 3:40 p.m. Thursday to a report of fire and smoke at an electrical power box that controls signals for the Red Line at the Cermak Road station. Power was shut down between 13th Street and 27th Street. A fire extinguisher was used to extinguish the fire

Trains were stopped and delayed, but train service was resumed after 4:20 p.m.


The Cermak-Chinatown CTA station is the station where a semi-trailer truck crashed into the station killing two and injuring 21 — seven critically — on April 25, 2008.
