Barricade Situation Ends in Antioch Township After Car Rams Police This Morning

Antioch police officers and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday May 23, 2018 to a “solicitor complaint” call in the block of 400 Donin Drive. When police attempted to stop a vehicle and speak with a man and woman inside the vehicle, the driver of the car refused to stop, and struck the police officers’ squad car.

A witness saw someone in the passenger seat point a gun with a long barrel out of a car window. That witness then heard a gunshot, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Antioch Police Department.

The suspects’ car sped away.

Antioch police searched the area and found the suspect’s vehicle outside a residence in the block of 40500 block of North Route 83 in Antioch Township. The residence is part of a former single-family home that has been subdivided into several rental units. At least five people were seen leaving the residence. Adults were searched and released. A young girl, were seen leaving the residence, and adults were searched and released after exiting the building.

Antioch police officers, including tactical officers and negotiators, were on the scene throughout Wednesday morning and early afternoon attempting to talk to the suspects. Route 83 was shut down between Grass Lake Road and Beach Grove Road, and Metra stopped North Central Service trains traveling inbound and outbound from Round Lake Beach to Antioch.

No injuries were reported, and the “barricade situation” ended with two people in custody about 3:30 p.m., and awaiting charges.

According to District 34 school officials, all schools were placed on soft lockdown. The lockdowns affected on school in Lake Villa and four schools in Antioch.
