A fire in a rowhouse in east Baltimore killed six adults and children early Tuesday, and spread to another three homes, a fire official said

Baltimore firefighters responded about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday to the 2300 block of Homewood Ave. in East Baltimore and reported a well-involved fire of a two-story brick home upon arrival. Firefighters had to retreat from an interior attack after windy conditions fanned the fire.

After the fire was under control, a search was conducted, and four victims were discovered — an elderly couple, their granddaughter and her three children. The victims were believed to have been killed by smoke inhalation.
