WINTER STORM: Chicago Bears Could Be in For One of Those Epic Weather Games

How do Chicago Bears Prepare for Winter Storm?
The Chicago Bears play the New England Patriots, Sunday December 12 3:15pm CST. During the game arctic winds are expected to hit Chicago — North-Northwest winds of 30 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Blowing snow that is predicted to fall overnight Saturday to Sunday is expected to affect the game, too.

Watch the field for fluorescent yard markings. The NFL requires the home team to mark the field with fluorescent paint — the color of their choice — when snow and blowing now hits the home stadium.

What’s it going to be … orange?, green? yellow? pink?

The Cardinal guesses fluorescent red!

Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould knows a lot about kicking in all kinds of conditions — the footballs get harder and don’t travel as far in extreme cold weather

Slick, wintery conditions are probably an advantage to the offense because the players already know where they are trying to go, while the defense has to react to the offensive moves on slippery conditions. Slick conditions may lead to higher scoring, but high winds tend to keep games low scoring.

High winds negatively affect the timing of the passing game. Winds that cross the field from sideline to sideline are much more detrimental to the passing game than winds that blow end zone to end zone. The winds Sunday December 12, 2010 are expected to be blowing mostly end zone-to-end zone from North to South (ChicagoSportsWeather.com).
