About 10:00 a.m. CST Milwaukee police and Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputies placed a tall, male/black in custody after a standoff since about 4:00 am. Friday. Police described the traffic stop of a gray SUV as a high risk traffic stop with the vehicle coming up on police records as a stolen vehicle. A Bearcat Armored Personnel Carrier or similar vehicle was parked perpendicular to the front of the SUV.

Law officers used a robot to approach a rear passenger side window of the SUV. Tear gas or a like gas agent was used after the robot successfully breached the window and the suspect exited the vehicle. He was immediately face down on the pavement of I-94 near 19th Street, just east of 20th Street, with the nearest officer about 30 feet away with rifles aimed at the suspect. Three K-9 units also surrounded the suspect and appeared eager to assist. One officer approached, and the suspect was handcuffed and helped up to a standing position. The suspect is in custody.

A female passenger, who appeared to be resisting arrest, was pulled from the passenger side of the SUV and was also taken into custody.

Interstate 94 was shut down during the incident.
