Sarah Maynard was found first alive, bound and gagged in Matthew Hoffman’s basement in rural Mount Vernon, Ohio. Hoffman was first arrested on a kidnapping charge.

An unemployed tree-trimmer arrested on kidnapping charges after a teen girl was found bound and gagged in his basement. Matthew Hoffman pointed the way Thursday to the bodies of Sarah’s brother, mother and another woman, stuffed into garbage bags and hidden in a hollow tree, police said

The homicide victims include Sarah’s mother, Tina Herrmann, 32; Sarah’s younger brother, Kody Maynard, 10; and family friend Stephanie Sprang, 41. The bodies were located as a result of homicide suspect Matthew Hoffman’s information that led law officers to a wooded area off of Yankee Street, west of Fredericktown near the Kokosing Lake Wilderness Area.
