Mount Prospect officials are proposing laying off six patrol officers, seven community service officers and five part-time crossing guards. The layoffs would mostly affect Mount Prospect’s traffic unit.

Nine firefighter/paramedics, a fire protection engineer, and a part-time emergency management coordinator position also are considered for job cuts. The daily 24-hour, 48-hour off firefighter shifts would be reduced from 18 to 15 firefighters.

The public works department would also face some cuts in staffing.

For all departments, a total of 34 employees are at risk of job loss.

The proposed 2011 calendar year budget calls for $82.6 million in expenditures, which is a 6.9 percent decrease from the amended 2010 budget. Budget hearings are planned to begin November 9, 2010.

Mount Prospect officials a trying to decrease a projected $3 million deficit in 2011 down to $1 million.
