Arlington Heights police received a report about 12:15 a.m. Saturday of a suspicious man prowling vehicles in the 400 block of West Rand Road near Stonebridge Village Apartments. Police received a report that a male/white in his 20’s wearing a plaid shirt, dark jeans and a black backpack was looking into vehicles and ‘just made access to a truck’ and was walking toward the rear of the building. The offender accessed a dark-colored pickup truck and then headed toward the back of the building.

Police were in a foot pursuit with the suspect and had him in custody in less than two minutes from the call for the burglary-in-progress. Police captured the suspect in front of a house in the 2400 block of North Chestnut Avenue, near Appletree. Police found him with a Garmin GPS, iPod, another MP3 player, and other items. He was identified and determined to be a 16-years-old that had just been arrested for burglary to motor vehicle the previous day (Friday) at his school. School officials found several GPS units in his backpack after he was acting suspiciously at school. He was charged with six counts of burglary to motor vehicle and released to his parents Friday.

Just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, the male/juvenile was charged with three more counts of burglary to motor vehicle, and was transported in custody to Arlington Heights police headquarters. He was later transferred to a juvenile detention facility in Chicago.
