Arlington Heights police received a report about 1:25 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 of a vehicle burglary-in-progress in an apartment parking lot at Stonebridge Village Apartments in the 600 block of West Rand Road. Two offenders on bicycles approached a silver 2001 Ford Explorer. The first offender entered the unlocked Ford Explorer while the second offender stood watch. The vehicle owner was nearby with a friend and confronted the offenders. The friend called 9-1-1. The second offender immediately rode away and there was a short struggle with the first offender, who was held down for a short period of time. The first offender struck the vehicle burglary victim and escaped on his bicycle. The first offender was holding an unknown metal object — possibly a knife.

The first offender was described as a male/white, 18-19 year-old, about 5’7″ with a husky build and sandy blonde curly hair. He was wearing a black shirt, gray jeans and glasses. The first offender was last seen heading toward the 700 building of Stonebridge across from Barnaby’s. No detailed description was available for the second offender, except that he had a blue-and-white striped backpack. The second offender fled northeast toward the field under the Com Ed high-tension towers and lines. Both of the offenders had small BMX style bicycles.

While police were searching for the suspects they found at about 1:35 a.m. an injured, intoxicated male that fell at Hintz and Patton Avenue. Paramedics responded to the aid of the fallen man, who was bleeding from the head.
