Driver Hits Tree in Wheeling During Traffic Stop, Flees on Foot into Buffalo Grove

Wheeling and Buffalo Grove police were searching for the driver of a Jeep Gran Cherokee that crashed into a tree just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Cambridge and University in Wheeling. Wheeling police were on a routine traffic stop when the vehicle crashed into the tree, causing heavy damage to the car. The driver bailed on police, and fled westbound on foot.

Buffalo Grove police were called in to assist with the accident scene and with the search of the perimeter west of the accident scene about 8:40 p.m. Buffalo Grove police had the suspect in custody in the 1000 block of Harvard by 9:15 p.m. Buffalo Grove police had the front and back doors of the residence on Harvard surrounded just before 9:10 p.m. The suspect was found inside the residence hiding in a bathroom.
