Evan G. Loritsch, 17, of the 1500 block of North Evergreen, Arlington Heights, was released on bond Friday. He is scheduled to appear Feb. 6 at the Rolling Meadows Cook County Circuit Court.

The Arlington Heights Police Department made an arrest Thursday night of a Hersey student who has admitted he was responsible for the email bomb threat received on 5:30 p.m. Tuesday evening that prompted a thorough search of the Hersey High School campus with a canine unit.  The email originated from a computer at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. The Hersey High School student has confessed to writing the email and admitted that it was purely a threat and that he had no intention to do any actual harm, according to a security notice posted by Dr. Tina Cantrell, Principal of John Hersey High School and dated today.

The student will be prosecuted as an adult and disciplinary consequence will be in accordance with District 214 policies.

Last Tuesday a Hersey High School administrator received an anonymous e-mail saying that several bombs were placed by the sender in various parts of the school and were set to explode at different times the next day. The Cook County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad went through the high school with an explosive-sniffing canine unit Tuesday evening, but found nothing suspicious.

Students and parents were notified by an automated telephone message
system about 6 a.m. Wednesday that the school building was safe and that
students should attend school.

Arlington Heights Police officers (uniformed and plainclothes) were posted at various positions throughout the Hersey High School campus for extra security following the threat.
