Two Recent E-Mail Scams Reported to AHPD

SCAM ATTEMPTS: Two Arlington Heights residents were involved in recent attempted e-mail scams.

SCAM #1
Resident received an e-mail from an unknown person pretending to be their nephew. The offender/scammer, pretending to be the nephew, stated that he was in London, England and needed money to pay his hotel bill because he was mugged and lost everything. The offender never asked for any money to be sent and did not name the hotel. The e-mail used by the offender was actually the nephew’s. The nephew was contacted and was not in London. No money was lost.

SCAM #2
Offender used the resident’s e-mail account to send a mass email to the resident’s friends explaining that she was in Wales, England, was mugged and could not pay their hotel bill. No money was lost.
