SECURITY VIDEO: Denver prosecutors have formally filed charges against a man suspected of mangling a shopper’s finger while stealing an iPad. The Denver district attorney’s office said 20-year-old Brandon Darnell Smith faces charges of robbery and assault.

A 59-year-old man lost two-thirds of the flesh of his fifth finger or pinky finger when suspect Brandon Darnell Smith and possibly an accomplice allegedly committed a strong arm robbery in front of an Apple Store in Denver at Cherry Creek Mall. Security video on April 15, 2010 at about 4:23 p.m. shows a black/male with a shaved head, wearing dark clothes and a man purse, follow a man and then grab is Apple store bag containing an iPad. Many Apple store bags have a draw string, which apparently entrapped flesh from Bill Jordan’s finger on his left hand. He didn’t notice that the offenders were watching him, and suddenly the offender on security video grabbed the package and ran out the door — then connected with his accomplice in the parking lot. When Bill Jordan looked at his finger, most of the flesh was gone, including tendons from about two-thirds of the end of his fifth finger of his left hand. There was nothing but bone left at the outermost two-thirds of his finger.
