Harvard firefighters called for a second level box alarm (extra-alarm) for a church fire in Harvard that started shortly before 8:00 a.m. Friday. The fire may have been caused by lightning during a severe thunderstorm.

Firefighters used tender or tanker trucks to bring water to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1601 Garfield Rd, because no hydrants exist near the church.

Harvard Fire Protection District firefighters were assisted by firefighters from McHenry Township, Nunda Rural, Marengo, Wonder Lake and Woodstock.
