Locked Mail Application May Be Related to iPhone

Users are reporting trouble with Mac.com and the Mail application that comes with every Mac and iPhone. There may be a problem with the way the iPhone checks the mail server at Mac.com.

Some .Mac users are unable to access Mac mail—both on the web and through the Mail application Thursday, October 11 and Friday, October 12, 2007. Attempts to access mail through a mail application, show a prompt to enter the password for the user’s account, but the mail application says the Mac Mail password was rejected. The Mail application can’t contact the server (since the server for some .Mac users is temporarily unavailable).

Web access to mail also reports the following under the Mail header: ‘Your information could not be displayed. Click here to try again.’ Users also get a message that the Mail

While the outage is occurring .Mac is reporting that ‘All .Mac services are online and fully operational.’

A log history, however, shows recent problems. Apple reported the following Mac Mail status updates on it .Mac System Status log on .Mac Tuesday morning (10/16):

10/15/2007
2% of members experienced difficulties with .Mac Mail for 20 minutes. Normal service has been restored.

10/11/2007
Due to scheduled maintenance, some members might not have been able to access .Mac Mail for 40 minutes or less between 9 pm and 9:45 pm PDT on 10/11/2007.

10/10/2007
5% of members experienced difficulties with .Mac Mail for 15 minutes. Normal service has been restored.

100% of members may have intermittently received error message “Your message could not be sent. Please try again later” when attempting to send email via Webmail from 10/01/07 9:00 AM to 10/01/07 3:30 PM PDT. Normal Service has been restored.

09/27/2007
Members intermittently received error message “Your message could not be sent. Please try again later” when attempting to send email via Webmail from 10:00 AM PDT to 12:30 PM PDT. Normal Service has been restored.

09/25/2007
Members intermittently received error message “Your message could not be sent. Please try again later” when attempting to send email via Webmail from 9:45 AM PDT to 2:45 PM PDT. Normal Service has been restored.

09/24/2007
Members intermittently received error message “Your message could not be sent. Please try again later” when attempting to send email via Webmail from 10:05 AM PDT to 11:45 AM PDT. Normal Service has been restored.

2% of members were intermittently unable to access .Mac Mail on the web from 4:30 PM PDT 9/20/07 to 6:20 PM PDT 9/20/07. Normal Service has been restored.
