Chicago Fire Department responded just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday to Edgebrook Lutheran Church, 5252 W. Devon Avenue. The 2½-story brick church was fully involved with smoke and fire showing out at the rear of the building, when firefighters arrived. The 3-alarm fire was announced struck out shortly before midnight, but firefighters were still extinguishing hot spots as late as 6:30 a.m. Monday. The 3-11 alarm fire also had an address of 6436 Hiawatha. Police arrested a 61-year-old man in connection with the extra-alarm fire, which has been classified as an arson fire.

Chicago Fire Department responded to Costas Greek Dining & Bar at 340 South Halsted Street just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday and fought a 4-alarm fire that was announced ‘struck out’ at about 3 a.m. Monday. Firefighters saw smoke showing in the rear of the building, and they soon learned that a kitchen in the rear of the building was fully involved. The fire advanced through the roof soon after firefighters arrived, and extended to the north to a building that was exposed to the original fire. The fire in the second building involved Athens Grocery, the Pan Hellenic Pastry Shop and Greektown Gift and Music Shop. The Greektown fire was also still burning Monday morning. CTA buses are being re-routed. The location is just northwest of the I-90/94 and I-290 Circle Interchange.
Fire staging was at Halsted and Monroe. There were at least six master streams surrounding and drowning the fire.
