Tea Party Tax Payer March at National Mall: Chants Overpower CNN Lisa Desjardins Audio

CNN Capitol Hill correspondent Lisa Desjardins stands her own to get through an interview in front of chants of “tell the truth” and “go home, CNN” by protesters.

At the start of the interview, anchor Fredricka Whitfield “forewarns” the audience that there might be some yelling during the report. At the end of the interview, the crowd chants “We love Joe!” and “Way to go, Joe” — referring to Congress Joe ‘You Lie’ Wilson. After a segue lead-in by the anchor that explained that further apology on Capitol Hill is being requested of Joe Wilson for blurting out ‘You lie!’ at President Barack Obama’s Health Care address to congress last week; the courageous reporter on location asked “What do you think of Congressman Joe Wilson?” The crowd reacted affirmatively for the congressman.

Lisa Desjardins is the Capitol Hill correspondent for CNNRadio. Desjardins, formerly Lisa Goddard, reports on the day-to-day congressional activity in addition to enterprise reporting. She joined CNN after working as a reporter in print, television and radio. She holds a bachelor of economics degree from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The event was organized by FreedomWorks — a conservative organization led by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) — in conjuction with the Tea Party Movement and other conservative groups as a way to protest current tax policies.

The date and concept were conceived by Fox News personality Glenn Beck, who six months ago organized a 9/12er event — The 9-12 Project, a post-9/11-type event to uplift the spirit that Americans felt in the hours and days after 9/11/2001, when Islamic terrorists attacked New York City and the Pentagon.
