#ad▼

A fifth strong armed robbery was reported in the Lincoln Park neighborhood just after midnight (Tuesday night/Wednesday morning). A 20-year-old woman was approached by two offenders in the 800 block of West Webster Avenue (near Dayton & Webster & Oz Park). One offender hit her in the face with a handgun and the other offender grabbed her purse, which was later found in an alley in the 2300 block of North Fremont Street. The woman was not seriously injured and refused transportation by paramedics.

The offenders are described as black men in their 20s. One suspect had dreadlocks and a black and white hat.

At least eight attacks have occurred in the last two months in Lincoln Park and Lakeview combined.

Four other recent muggings in Lincoln Park have involved quick and violent attacks from behind in the early-morning hours by a crew of several offenders. The robbers took wallets and other personal items. One victim suffered a broken jaw during an attack.

A police forum was organized Thursday August 13, 2009 for Lincoln Park residents. Organizers warn that the meeting was important because many residents and bar patrons are naïve about traversing the trendy North Side neighborhood. High-ranking Chicago Police Department officers met with about 75 people who packed into the Lincoln Park Cultural Center, 2045 N. Lincoln Park West, with an informative presentation and discussion of recent violent muggings that have occurred late this summer. The muggings are unusual because, typical muggings do not involve serious injuries inflicted on the victims.

Cook County state’s attorney’s office and members of the Guardian Angels assisted the Chicago Police Department with the forum.

Area 3 (Belmont) detectives are investigating these cases.
