Gio Ponti Winner of Arlington Million at Arlington Park Racetrack

Gio Ponti took the lead on the final turn Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the 27th running of the Arlington Million and continued in to the finish line in first place.

Gio Ponti was ridden by Ramon Dominguez, and is owned by Castleton Lyons and trained by Christophe Clement.

Ramon Dominguez, from Caracas, Venezuela, is a Champion jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing — awarded the most wins for a jockey in 2001 and 2003 in the United States. Dominguez won the Isaac Murphy Award in 2004 for having the highest winning percentage.

Gio Ponti returned $5 as the favorite in a field of eight at the Arlington Heights horseracing track — Arlington Park. At least 28,000 were in attendance to see the Arlington Million.
