Chicago police and fire department paramedics responded about 2:00 p.m. Tuesday February 13, 2018 to a report of a Chicago police officer shot at the Thompson Center, 100 West Randolph Street. The shooting possibly occurred after a traffic stop and a foot pursuit.
The gunshot victim is believed to be a Chicago police officer that was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a stairwell in the Thompson Center, 100 West Randolph, which is the State of Illinois Building.
Police and paramedics were also responding to 100 West Monroe Street.
The Chicago police officer that was shot was transported with life-threatening injuries — possibly four gunshot wounds to the lower body — to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a police escort.
Chicago police spokesman Anthony Gugliemi posted on Twitter that a “CPD member” has been shot.
Shooting – Thompson center. CPD member shot. Transported to area hospital. Superintendent Johnson and command staff en route. Updates to follow.

People in the atrium food court in the basement reported heard a shot or shots fired.
There is intense police activity at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and The Thompson Center, where both areas have wide areas outside cordoned off by yellow police tape.
The Thompson Center, also known as the State of Illinois Building, is has businesses on the first floor and an open food court on the lower level.
The suspect was transported to Cook County Stroger Hospital.
