Lawsuit: Ulta Re-Sells Returned Beauty Products as New

A lawsuit claims that beauty product chain Ulta repackages returned cosmetics and sells them to unsuspecting customers.

Ulta Beauty, Inc. (ULTA) with headquarters in Bolingbrook, Illinois is facing a lawsuit with allegations of unsanitary sales practices. The lawsuit seeks damages for the money consumers spent when purchasing used beauty products, and injunctive relief to force Ulta to stop repackaging used beauty products and reselling the used products.

A California woman is suing the Bolingbrook-based retailer over claims the company sells used makeup that has been returned.

A former employee posted photos on Twitter alleging to show returned makeup being cleaned and re-packaged before being re-sold by Ulta.

Twitter user @fatinamxo accused Ulta of reselling products, ranging from makeup, hair care, skincare, fragrance and hair tools. The Twitter user @fatinamxo provided examples of foundation repackaged and sold, used lipstick cleaned with alcohol and placed on shelves for resale, eyeshadow palettes cleaned and dried overnight for repackaging and available for sale the next day.
