Illinois: 10,000 Prisoner May Be Released Sept. 30 to Save Taxpayers Millions

#ad▼

The State of Illinois is considering a release of prisoners — making a list of up to 10,000 so-called non-violent inmates with less than one year left to serve to save taxpayers $125 million. The action is said to be necessary with the layoff of more than 1,000 corrections employees at Stateville Prison and other facilities in Illinois. Union leaders have already received a list of 500 plus employees set for layoffs on September 30, 2009. Stateville Correctional Center is a maximum security state prison for men in Crest Hill, Illinois.
