The injured driver was identified as Lavern Gank, age 92 of Hawthorn Woods. Gank was was pronounced dead about an hour after the accident, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Illinois State Police believe Gank may have suffered a medical event when he lost control of his car and struck the toll booth.

The two right lanes at the toll booth were closed for the one-vehicle crash investigation. The open I-Pass Toll lanes were not affected. All lanes reopened just after 3:00 p.m.
