Elgin Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Go-Kart Crash on River Rd, Marengo Township

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and Marengo firefighters and paramedics responded about 10:20 p.m. Saturday September 22,2018 to a report of a hit-and-run car vs go-kart crash on River Road near Hawthorn Road in Marengo Township.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reported emergency crews responded to the block of 22200 River road about 10:20 p.m.

The go-kart driver, a 29 year-old Elgin woman, was transported to Centegra Hospital-Woodstock where she was pronounced dead.

Upon early police investigation it appears the Elgin woman was driving the go-kart westbound on River Road, when a Toyota Camry rear-ended the go-kart. McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

According to Google Maps Street View image capture October 2016, the Speed Limit is 55 MPH on River Road.

Police disclosed that the driver of the Toyota Camry, 26-year-old Brett Herold of Marengo, left the scene of the crash, but was later found by police. He was arrested, taken into custody and charged with Class 4 Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death and failure to reduce speed.
