Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Wauconda firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 to a report of a crash with injuries on West Brown Road near West Ivanhoe Road, Wauconda Township. When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, they located a 2018 Subaru WRX with extensive damage. The driver of the vehicle, a 51 year-old man of Island Lake, was unconscious and entrapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters and paramedics were able to remove the man from the vehicle, and he was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation shows the driver was traveling northbound on West Brown Road. For an unknown reason, he failed to properly negotiate a curve, drove off the roadway, and struck a tree. No other vehicles were involved and there were no passengers in the vehicle.

The crash is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. Crash investigators are working to rule out whether speed, alcohol, or illegal substances were contributing factors to the crash.
