How Target Corp Helps Catch Criminals Outside Its Stores from National Center in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota

#ad▼

There are more than 1,800 Target stores in the U.S., and as you probably know they sell a little bit of everything. The major retailer also plays an important role with targeting criminals outside its doors. CBS News correspondent Tony Dokoupil reports.

Target has a National Investigation Center in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota where security staff can monitor any of their 1800 stores live, from several angles.

Organized retail crime is the major problem related to crime for Target, but 20 percent of in-house crime lab work at the National Investigation Center does not involve crimes against Target. Police departments sometimes ask Target’s crime lab for help solving crimes.

The National Retail Federation report in 2016 stated that organized retail crime cost in all big box stores cost stores $30 billion nationally.
