Chicago Fire Department divers were immediately in the water, and at about 5:57 p.m. four divers were attempting extrication of occupant(s) inside the vehicle, which was located under water about 5:45 p.m. At one point there were five divers in the water. The car was difficult to find, and a diver used a line to attempt to snag the car. The snagging technique was successful, as the diver followed the line down to the point of attachment with the car.

A male victim was out of the water by about 6:12 p.m. CPR and Advanced Life Support was being administered on the pier near the edge of the water. Diver’s were still checking the vehicle for any other possible occupants at 6:15 p.m. No other victims were found in the car.

The driver was transferred to Ambulance 60 while CPR was administered at about 6:26 p.m. Ambulance 60 left for the hospital by 6:30 p.m. The male patient was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in extremely critical condition.

Chicago Fire Department reported that the car impacted the water and continued to float with momentum about 75 feet from the pier before it submerged. The car was not immediately removed from the water, and Chicago police took over the scene.
