Free Vanilla Ice Cream Cones at Dairy Queen: Giveaway Celebrates Spring Equinox

#ad▼

GIVEAWAY AVAILABLE AT NON-MALL LOCATIONS
Dairy Queen will once again offer a giveaway of free vanilla ice cream cones at all of its non-mall locations in the United States on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 to celebrate the start of spring, and to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Dairy Queen offered the same promotion last year at the Spring Equinox. The Spring Equinox this year is March 20, 2018 at 11:15 a.m. CDT. The March equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north and vice versa in September. The celestial equator is the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator.

The Spring Equinox also is also associated with equal or nearly equal amounts of daylight and darkness. The is period of the year is when Chicagoland gains the most gains in duration of daily light. For example Monday’s sunrise in Arlington Heights is 6:57 a.m. and Tuesday’s sunrise is 6:55 a.m. — a gain of 2 minutes in the morning. Monday’s sunset is 7:03 p.m. and Tuesday’s sunset is 7:04 p.m. — a gain of 1 minute and a total for the day equaling 3 minutes.

The rate of gain of daylight slows down until the Summer Solstice (Thursday June 21, 2018 at 5:07 a.m.), when daylight loss begins shortly after the longest day of summer.

According to Dairy Queen, the free soft serve cones will be available while supplies last, and cones are limited to one per customer.
