VIDEO: SpaceX Celebrates Successful Falcon Heavy Rocket Launch from the Apollo 11 Launch Pad, Kennedy Space Center

SpaceX is celebrating its historic launch of the world’s most powerful rocket. Falcon Heavy launched into space carrying a cherry red convertible. CBS News Manuel Bojorquez reports.

Falcon Heavy is a two-stage launch vehicle equal to eighteen Boeing 747s at takeoff. The launch vehicle uses three cores with nine engines for a total of 27 (+1) engines with 5 million pounds of thrust to lift off from Kennedy Space Center.

Falcon Heavy is the largest and most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two, and was launched from the Launch Pad where Apollo 11 was launched.

The payload, including a Tesla Roadster, will be sent out into a Mars crossing orbit.
