CHICAGO BEARS RADIO -- WBBM Newsradio 780 "Traffic on the 8's"

South Barrington Police and Barrington-Countryside firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:14 p.m. Sunday February 4, 2018 to a report of a crash at New Sutton Road (Route 59) and Bartlett Road in South Barrington. The crash was reported in the northbound lanes south of the intersection.

Engine 37’s crew on arrival reported two vehicles with heavy damage and one vehicle off the roadway, and police already on the scene.

A second ambulance was requested by 3:17 p.m., and Ambulance 38 was assigned. Two additional ambulances were requested by 3:19 p.m. One patient was without a pulse at the scene. A Fox River Grove ambulance was assigned to the scene as the third ambulance.

Three people injured in the crash were transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates by the Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics.

According to South Barrington police the driver of a northbound 2009 Volvo S60 lost control of the Volvo, which veered into the oncoming southbound lanes. The passenger side of the Volvo was hit by a 2006 BMW X5 at about 3:10 p.m. on New Sutton Road (Route 59) between Peny Road and Bartlett Road.

The female passenger in the Volvo was reported in traumatic cardiac arrest at the scene, and was transported with Advanced Life Support to St. Alexius Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m. at St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates.

The passenger was later identified as 14-year-old female Barrington High School student Cassandra Meadors of Barrington. The Cook County medical examiner’s office Monday identified the Cassandra Meadors, was investigating her cause of death.

Two other patients from the crash were transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates by Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics. Their medical conditions were not immediately released.

The Volvo was driven by Dana Cibulka, 27, of Chicago, and the 2006 BMW X5 was driven by Carol Saldek, 56, of Crystal Lake.

Route 59 was closed between Penny and Bartlett roads for about six hours during accident investigation by South Barrington police and the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team of the Major Crimes Assistance Team. Sutton Road is two-lane highway with a speed limit of 45 MPH.

The crash on record is second time in less than a year a Barrington High student has died in a crash. On Saturday March 4, 2017, 18-year-old senior Rebecca Soderman of Lake Barrington was a passenger killed in a car crash with a tree at Plum Tree Road near Rock Ridge Road in Barrington Hills.

The rural Cook County crash is among several fatal head-on crashes in rural Lake County and rural McHenry County this winter season.
