Driver Killed in Crash with Tree on 87th St West of Modaff Rd, Naperville

Naperville police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:09 p.m. Sunday February 25, 2018 to a report of a car crash with a tree at 87th Street and Modaff Road

The crash was located on 87th Street just west of Modaff Road in Naperville.

Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find a single vehicle crash involving a 2013 Mercedes Benz CLS63. Firefighter/paramedics and police arrived to find that the victim required extrication from the vehicle. Once extricated the victim was transported to Edward Hospital where he pronounced dead.

The driver was identified as Jason Schaus, 41, of Naperville.

Google traffic maps layer indicated a road closure in both directions on 87th Street between Modaff Road and Massachusetts Avenue.

On their official Facebook page at 4:37 p.m. Naperville police reported that during the initial on-scene investigation, closed eastbound 87th Street between Modaff Road and Massachusetts Avenue until approximately 11:00 PM. Traffic was rerouted in the area.

The initial police investigation indicates that Mercedes Benz was westbound on 87th from Modaff Rd when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

The Naperville Traffic Unit was on the scene for accident investigation and reconstruction, which required the road closure. According to Naperville Police Department, the accident remains under investigation.
