Two Carjacking Suspects Arrested After High-Speed Chase Up and Down Lake Shore Drive in Stolen Lime Green Mustang

A high-speed chase of a carjacked lime green Mustang lasted nearly 45 minutes and led police across the city early Friday and resulted in the arrest of two people.

An Illinois State police pursuit that began about 1:09 a.m. Friday ended about 1:53 a.m. Police located a stolen 2014 Ford Mustang involved in an aggravated vehicular hijacking in Chicago and were running up I-55 toward Lake Shore Drive. The pursuit involved speeds up to 107 MPH. The offending driver made it up to Fullerton and exited on Fullerton, almost losing control, and then got back on Lake Shore Drive and headed southbound on Lake Shore Drive at about 1:15 a.m.

The first suspect was captured near 87th Street and Union about 1:45 a.m. after the Mustang hit a parked car and both suspects bailed out of the car.

Just south of Chicago Avenue, the offender switched to driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive, about 1:17 a.m. The driver exited at Grand Avenue down the wrong way on the ramp, and the pursuit was terminated by 1:17 a.m.

At least one civilian aware of the pursuit because the use of a police scanner spotted the Mustang westbound on Congress from Damen. At about 1:35 a.m. the the vehicle was southbound on Wells Street near 43rd Street. Next the Mustang was at 43rd Street and State Street, and then approaching 53rd Street on southbound Michigan Avenue at about 100 MPH. Police reported very light traffic.

Westbound 63rd Street at 1:38 a.m. going over the interstate.

Southbound on Yale at 1:38 a.m.

Southbound Wentworth, approaching 71 Street at 1:38 a.m.

83rd Street Vincennes at 1:40 a.m.

Police on the ground lost visual contact at 1:40 a.m.

Southbound from 87th Street, one block east of Halsted. Suspects bailed the vehicle and were southbound on foot from 8743 South Union by 1:41 a.m.

The vehicle was crashed into a parked car with minor damage at 8739 South Union. Police Helicopter was overhead looking for suspects with a search light.

The first suspect as in custody by 1:44 a.m. at 8744 South Wells Street.

The second suspect was in custody with Chicago police in the area of 8815 South Wallace by 1:53 a.m.
