Crash injures two Cook County Sheriff’s deputies, wrecks two police cars on eastbound I-90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) just west of Arlington Heights Road.

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:09 PM Tuesday December 5, 2017 to a report of a crash with entrapment I-90 and Mile Marker 77, east of Arlington Heights near Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village. Initially police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a car fire, then a crash involving an Illinois State Trooper with a trooper entrapped in a burning vehicle — according to dispatched reports. The crash actually involved the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department. Two Cook County Sheriff’s police sedans were hit during a traffic stop.

Two Cook County Sheriff’s officers were among three people injured in a crash on the Jane Addams Tollway late Tuesday night. CBS 2’s Mike Puccinelli reports.

The first fire crew on arrival reported the crash was eastbound west of Arlington Heights Road, which made access difficult from the nearest Arlington Heights Fire Station.

Two Cook County sheriff’s squad cars were involved in a traffic stop about 11:10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-90 near Arlington Heights Road when both squad cars were hit by a third car, according to Illinois State Police. At least one of the deputies was trapped in a police vehicle after the crash.

The two deputies were transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics, and the driver of the other car was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights by Elk Grove Township firefighter/paramedics. The crash victims’ injuries were initially thought to be non-life-threatening, according to the Illinois State Police.

Two damaged police units near the median divider were Cook County Sheriff’s vehicles. Another silver sedan was observed at the scene perpendicular to the median divider wall after the crash. An IDOT pickup truck pushed one of the police cars out of a traffic lane toward the median as police investigated the crash.

One lane of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway was closed for investigation during a period of time overnight.
