Arlington Heights Woman, North Barrington Passenger, Seriously Injured, Rescued from Wetlands After Crash Route 59 South of Route 22

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Lake Zurich firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:58 p.m. Sunday December 24, 2017 to a report of a crash on Route 59 near Scott Road in North Barrington and Cuba Township.

Lake Zurich firefighter/paramedics and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and discovered two vehicles with extensive damage. One vehicle — a Toyota Corolla — was partially submerged in water west of Route 59. Lake Zurich Ambulance 322’s crew requested a second ambulance by 6:04 p.m. A third and fourth ambulance were requested by 6:09 p.m. Barrington and Barrington Countryside ambulances were assigned.

Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics rescued the driver and a passenger in the Toyota Corolla. An 83 year-old passenger from North Barrington was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with critical injuries. The Arlington Heights driver of the Toyota Corolla was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where she was listed in serious condition.

Preliminary investigation shows a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 63 year-old female of Arlington Heights, was traveling northbound on Route 59, south of Route 22. A Toyota Highlander was traveling southbound on Route 59 in the same area. The driver of the Toyota Corolla lost control and traveled into the southbound lanes of traffic, striking the Highlander, driven by a 55 year-old male of Round Lake Beach. The Toyota Corolla then left the roadway to the west side of Route 59 near Scott Road into a wetland area. The Toyota Corolla was partially submerged in the water when the 63 year-old female driver from Arlington Heights, and an 86 year-old female from Lake Barrington were rescued.

The driver of the Toyota Highlander was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life threatening; and a 55 year-old female passenger, from Round Lake Beach was also transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
