Roundy’s Supermarkets Recalls Some Products Sold in Soup Bar Area — May Be Contaminated with Hard Plastic

AFFECTING STORES IN ILLINOIS AND WISCONSIN

Roundy’s Supermarkets is recalling more than 16,000 lbs. of Ready-to-Eat chili and soup Roundy’s reports may be contaminated with foreign matter, specifically hard plastic. The recalled products are sold to be prepared for supermarkets’ soup bar area. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) classified the recall as a “Class I Recall.”

USDA Class I Recall

A Class I is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

The affected Roundy’s products are Ready-to-Eat chili and soup, produced and packaged on October 3, 2017 with a Sell-By date of December 2, 2017.

Roundy’s is also recalling …

24 lb. boxes containing six 4 lb. bags of “Meat and Bean Soup in Tomato Base” with lot code 354191-2767, and

24 lb. boxes containing six 4 lb. bags of “Santa Fe Style Turkey and White Chicken Chili with Beans” with lot code 354464-2767.

The affected products have establishment number “EST. 33997” or “P-33997” inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were shipped to retail stores in Illinois and Wisconsin.

The problem was discovered Monday, October 16, 2017, and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) was notified Tuesday. No reports of adverse reactions related to these products have been reported as of Tuesday.

Recalled products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Roundy’s Customer Service Center at 1-866-768-6397.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued the recall Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

As of Tuesday at 8:30 p.m., information about the recall was not found on the official websites for Roundy’s, Mariano’s, Pick n Save, or Copps grocers or on their official Facebook pages.
