Four Transported to Hospitals by Medics from House Fire on Westgate Road Across from Tomahawk Park, Des Plaines

Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:42 AM Sunday October 22, 2017 to a report of a house fire at 389 South Westgate Road Des Plaines, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a bedroom fire.

NOTE: May have been three patients transported from this incident.

Tower Ladder 63’s crew reported a header while en route.

Engine 63’s crew on arrival reported a small, 2-story residential home with smoke showing from the left side and the right side of the house.

A 9-1-1 caller reported there might be a person trapped in the rear of the building by 8:46 a.m.

Engine 61’s crew was assigned to get a line to the rear by 8:48 a.m.

Engine 61’s crew was assigned to bring a second line off of Engine 63 and knock the fire down from the rear.

Command reported a fire in the back bedroom.

A Working Fire Response was requested by 8:47 a.m.

An EMS Box for extra ambulances was requested at 8:49 a.m.

Engine 63’s crew was assigned at 8:50 a.m. to back their line out of interior, hit the fire from the outside, and go back interior later.

The second line of Engine 63’s crew was brought out of the house and “will be second line exterior,” according to fire command. Another line was in use in the rear.

Engine 12’s crew was assigned to be on deck at 8:52 a.m.

Engine 61’s crew was going through the rear of the house and Engine 63’s was going through the front of the house by 8:54 a.m.

Mount Prospect Engine 13’s crew was assigned to help with a line going in the front of the house.

Mount Prospect Ambulance 12’s crew was assigned to bring their cot and a med bag to meet a patient on the front side of the house by 8:54 a.m.

Elk Grove Township Engine 11’s crew was assigned to be on deck by 8:57 a.m.

Truck 61’s crew; “they’re cutting the roof now” — at 8:57 a.m.

Engine 13’s crew was assigned with overhaul to the rear of the house with Engine 61’s crew by 8:58 a.m.

Engine 63’s crew was assigned to deliver foam to the line to the rear by 8:59 a.m.

Arlington Heights Ambulance 3’s crew was assigned to support medical on the front side of the house by 8:59 AM.

Engine 12’s crew was going to the second floor by 9:01 a.m.

Command declared the primary search was complete and negative on the second floor by 9:03 AM.

Engine 62’s crew reported that the primary search was complete and negative on the first floor and basement by 9:05 AM.

Command reported the fire is knocked by 9:06 AM.

Command reported everybody’s off the roof by 9:06 AM.

Engine 61’s crew was assigned overhaul on the second floor by 9:07 AM.

Battalion Chief 61 reported the fire was knocked and under control, that ventilation was underway, that searches were in progress, and three victims were removed from the house by 9:06 AM.

The fire was declared under control by 9:09 AM.

The primary search was declared complete and negative on the first and second floor and basement by 9:09 AM.

Mount Prospect Fire Department Ambulance 12 transported one patient to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by 9:13 AM.

Wheeling Fire Department(?) transported one patient to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by 9:19 AM.

Arlington Heights Fire Department Ambulance 3 transported one patient to Northwest Community Hospital by 9:20 AM.

Rosemont Fire Department transported one patient to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by 9:29 AM.

Battalion Chief 63 was striking out the box by 9:39 AM.
