#ad▼

Arlington Heights Police Department this week introduced K-9 Brit and his handler Officer Mike Turano. Brit is a 2 1/2 year-old Malinois Shephard mix (“maliherd”) from Slovakia. He was born February 14, 2015 and heeds commands in Dutch.

K-9 units are frequently used for narcotics searching and tracking suspects.

Officer Michael Turano was given a Medal of Valor along with Officer Kevin Sullivan and Officer Doug Glanz after they saved the life of Officer Michael McEvoy when he was shot in the neck at a townhouse in Arlington Heights on December 12, 2013. Turano and Sullivan rescued McEvoy, dragging him over 80 yards to safety, while Glanz provided cover. No more shots were fired until a SWAT team neutralized the male offender hours later in a violent confrontation that was described as a stalking and domestic incident.
