Algonquin police and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills FPD responded about 3:12 p.m. Sunday August 13, 2017 to a report of serious crash at 902 East Algonquin Road, just east of Longwood Drive.

One female driver was transported to Centegra Hospital – Huntley, where she was pronounced dead at 3:48 p.m. A female driver of a second vehicle heading westbound was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of a third vehicle traveling westbound was also transported to a hospital that was not specified by police.

Police say the driver of the car heading eastbound crossed the center line, striking two vehicles traveling westbound.

Autopsies will be conducted Monday by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. The autopsy may indicate whether the eastbound driver had a medical event prior to the crash. Identities of the two killed are being withheld pending notification of family.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, Algonquin Police Department and the coroner’s office. The speed limit is 40 mph in the slightly curved stretch of road where the crash occurred.

Route 62 between Longwood Drive and Sandbloom Road in Algonquin was shut down during crash rescue and accident investigation.
